What is SMS?

SMS or Short Messaging Service is a technology that allows you to send text messages of around 160 characters (this can vary according to service) between mobile phones. SMS has developed it's own shorthand language, so to speak, over the years. This is because of the limited amount of characters you can send per message. So, instead of writing words in full, acronyms are used as well as other short codes using characters to make sending SMS text messages faster and easier. This SMS shorthand is also used in internet chatrooms and Instant Messeenger services like MSN and AOL.
